This German novel,
The Door-to-Door Bookstore, is about the blessing of multi-generational relationships and the power of books. It was written by Carsten Sebastian Henn and translated from German to English by Melody Shaw. Carl Kollhoff loves his job delivering books to patrons who don't wish to travel to the bookstore. When 9-year-old Shasha persists in following him on his route, a friendship develops. Along the way, that friendship is tested and Kollhoff loses his job. Will their love of books restore the balance and sustain their friendship? Is Carl's role as important to others as he imagined? How do books bring people together? All these questions find answers in this heart-warming book.
Apparently there is a movie, Der Buchspazierer, but it is not available to stream, buy, or rent in the United States. Too bad! I'm sure the movie adaptation of this tale is lovely.
